What This Procedure Involves
A commercially available pelvic binder (such as SAM Pelvic Sling or T-POD) or a folded bed sheet is positioned at the level of the greater trochanters (the bony prominences on the outer thighs — NOT at the waist or iliac crests). The binder is tightened using the manufacturer's mechanism or sheet clamps to provide circumferential compression, reducing the pelvic volume. Application takes 30–60 seconds. The binder is left in place until definitive surgical fixation or until cleared by the trauma team.
