Hip labral repair is an arthroscopic procedure to reattach a torn labrum — the ring of cartilage that lines the rim of the hip socket, providing stability, suction seal, and shock absorption.
Performed arthroscopically with the leg in traction. The torn labrum is identified, the bone at the rim is prepared, and the labrum is reattached using small suture anchors. This is usually performed in combination with bony reshaping for FAI. The operation takes one and a half to two hours.
Labral repair is recommended when MRI shows a labral tear causing mechanical symptoms (catching, clicking) or deep groin pain, particularly in the context of FAI. Labral repair preserves the seal and stability function of the labrum.
Physiotherapy, activity modification, anti-inflammatory medication, and corticosteroid injection.
MRI arthrogram confirms the tear. Pre-operative physiotherapy recommended.
